Tekwa Parish located in the middle of Usambara Mountains. Intially the parish was an outstation of Sakharani Parish. Small-scale tea farms owned by local people surround the Parish. Few miles from the parish is the Mponde Tea Processing Factory owned by the government to process tea leaves in the area. Getting to parish one uses country roads from Soni, from Bumbuli or from Korogwe via Kwashemshi and Dindira.
The increasing of Catholics in this outstation led Rev. Fr. Burkard Shneider, OSB, who was then the priest in-charge for Sakharani Parish to think of making this place a parish of its own. He built ta good size church, priests’ house, sisters house and a kindergarten school. He also built a very efficient rainwater collection system to provide sufficient water to residents of this place. After the completion of all these buildings, Fr. Burkhard requested the diocese to announce it an independent parish.
His Excellency Bishop Anthony Banzi announced it a parish in 2001 and he put it under the patronage of St. Benedict of Nursia. Rev. Fr. Joseph Sekija became the first diocesan priest and the first priest in-charge of this parish.
Until now there is no native priest who comes from Tekwa Parish.
