After Tanga being a Prefecture in the year 1950, Lushoto was thought to be Bishop’s residence and the Cathedral. The same year Fr. Benedict (Rosminian) and Bother Fortunatus (Benedictine) started to build the Church. One man who had a hotel in Lushoto, decided to sell his hotel to the Church and is the same place where theChurch building of Lushoto stands. The Church was thought to be the Cathedral of Tanga, that is why the Church of Lushoto is one among the most beautiful and big Churches in Tanga. Rt. Rev. Bishop Eugene Arthurs helped by the Bishop of Dar-Es-Salaam, Edgar Maranta, consecrated the Church.
The opening of this Church in Lushoto brought a new start of the work of evangelization in Usambara Mountain. This was followed by the building of Mabughai and Magamba schools. 1953 Precious Blood Sisters shifted dental clinic from Kifungilo to Lushoto where they had already built a school for coloured people children. These two, school and dental clinic have been good ways of evangelization to the people of Lushoto. Now days, the dental clinic has been modified and become more modern under the leadership of Sr. Eileen and it has become one of the best dental clinics in Tanzania. Deferent people from all parts in Tanzania come to this clinic. Even very influential figures like the late Cardinal Laurean Rugambwa and the late Mwalimu Julius Nyerere got service in this clinic.
