HISTORY OF SCHOOL

In 1991 the 3 companies Tanga Cement, Tanga, Twiga Cement, Dar es Salaam and Tembo Cement, Mbeya met and conducted the meeting discussing the building of a schools to help providing education for the children of their employees. No definite decision was made as an agreement on location of the school could be made.

Tanga Cement initiated the idea and decided to build her own school. In 1993 the school was built and named Saruji Secondary School.

In 1997 Tanga Cement was taken over by a private company. Two years later in 1999 the Rosminian Fathers were asked to manage and administer the school. The Rosminian Fathers officially took over the management of the school on January 1st, 2000, and the school was renamed Rosmini Secondary School.

The flats, which are located within the school grounds, were also given as part of the school handover. The Rosminian Fathers converted these flats to provide hostel accommodation for boarding students.

It is a co-educational and multi-denominational school, and education is provided to both day and boarding pupils. Today the school is managed by the Rosminian Fathers, and the property is owned by Tanga cement.

GEOGRAPHY OF THE SCHOOL

The school is in the Tanga District, situated on the main Korogwe-Tanga road. It is in the Pongwe area, opposite the Tanga Cement Factory.

We participate in the interschool league, entering football, netball, basketball and volleyball teams.
The School football team also plays with local teams and other schools in the area through out the year.

Religious Activities

All students are obliged to attend and participate in their specific religious periods offered by the school each week.

The School is situated near both the Catholic and Lutheran Churches. There is also a Mosque nearby.

OBJECTIVES OF THE SCHOOL

• To provide each pupil with a programme of study, based on the National Curriculum guidelines, designed to offer a wide choice to all students, through which they will fulfill their academic potential, enabling them to pursue their chosen goal of higher education, appropriate training or career choice.

• To provide a wide range of cultural, physical and sporting activities in which pupils are encouraged to participate for the enhancement of their cultural, moral and physical qualities.

• To promote religious tolerance, mutual appreciation, and understanding levels.

• To encourage the help and participation of parents, in all aspects of their children’s education.

• To ensure that pastoral care is of a level and quality appropriate to the needs of all pupils during their time in our care.

• To ensure that teachers avail of opportunities to update their skills and knowledge and keep abreast of new and more effective teaching methods.

• To use our best endeavors to prepare all pupils to leave our community equipped to meet whatever challenges they are presented with in life.

STUDENT ADMISSION

Entrance forms are available each year in September. Upon receipt of the form, the student is welcomed to sit an entrance examination, which takes place in October.
The selection process is based on this exam only. The school board admits students to Form I.

NUMBER OF STUDENTS

Up to 2005, the school only had one stream (40 students) for each form I – IV (A total of 160 students). In 2006, the school has introduced double streams, starting with Form I. The school now has a total number of 201 students. It is anticipated that by 2009 there will be a total of 320 students.
